Let the Blog Begin!

I've resisted blogging for months! Is this true for you, also? Did have a hard time getting started with a blog, or did you just dive right into the blogging world with no looking back? (This is not a rectorial question. I’d really like to hear back from people on this subject.)

I don't know why I've resisted doing this for so long. I'm not exactly a computer Geek, but I have certainly been computer-literate for the last twenty-plus years. I was a WordPerfect Certified Resource back in the olden days and taught that program to companies and individuals. I've designed, built and maintained website for folks since the 90s, and I spend part of virtually every day on my computer. I'm a member and frequent visitor to such bulletin boards as WetCanvas Glass Art and Lampwork Etc.

But there is something about the social networking phenomena that I just don't get, I guess. Maybe it's because I'm basically a quiet, private person who likes to live in my own world. It just doesn't occur to me that anyone would be interested in what I have to say. To me, it seems so ... presumptuous of me to assume that someone would want to read my comments or opinions on anything. And even though I’ve set up a Twitter account, I feel as though I’d be tweeting in the wind!

What motivated me to finally get going? Well, a couple of days ago I got an email from another ArtFire artist telling me that one of my items was included in a collection she had put together. Big deal, right? Lots of people probably get included in collections. But, hey, this was the eighth time since this past October that my lampwork has been highlighted in a collection. Each time it’s been a thrill!

I've decided, as a self-taught lampworker -- and one who has a hefty library of books, videos, e-tutorials, article clippings and website postings -- the one thing I can offer is my opinion on some of these resources. I plan to discuss those that I have read and used and, whenever possible, show examples of my results, if any.

I would so much appreciate your comments on your personal experience with any of the resources I discuss here.
